Summary

Performs all aspects and modalities of critical care nursing to all health system patients and visitors per rapid response guidelines. Responds to resuscitative responsibilities and other emergencies as needed. Maintains and completes documentation in patient’s charts and departmental records. Provides educational experience and maintains data entry.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

  • Respond and provide assistance to the party who activates/requests Rapid Response
  • Provide medical/nursing care through established protocols or physician order
  • Serves as a core member of the Code Blue Team
  • Assists the primary care provider with the care, treatment, intervention, or transition of the patient or person of medical concern
  • Perform or assist with advanced care procedures
  • Rounds through patient care areas, inclusive of but not limited to, ICU, ED, general care floors, pediatrics, etc.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities
  • Responsible for data entry into NRCPR database
  • Assist with development, review and revision of policy and procedure and competency
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education And Formal Training

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in North Carolina or compact licensure
  • ACLS and PALS certification required
  • ACLS and PALS instructor certification preferred
  • CCRN and/or CEN preferred obtainable within 3 years

Work Experience

  • 3 years emergency room experience required
  • 3 years critical care experience preferred
  • 1 year of leadership experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

  • Ability to use nursing process to enhance patient outcomes by involving patient, family and significant others in the plan of care and educational process
  • Ability to follow ANA and specialty area standards of care through evidenced based nursing practice
  • Ability to adjust care based upon knowledge of age-specific physiological, developmental and psychosocial needs of patients
  • Knowledge of population of age group served
  • Ability to support patients in the practice of cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of medical regimen
  • Good organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to adapt to changes in acuity, fluctuation in census
  • Good attitude regarding work processes and displays positive behavior

Physical Requirements

  • Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
  • Visual acuity for observation of patients
  • Much standing, walking, bending and lifting
  • Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
