Summary

Registered Nurse, RN plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

  • Acts as point of contact for the physicians and administrators
  • Serve as resource to nurses, nursing assistants, and unit secretaries
  • Assists with procedures, checks orders
  • Responsible for daily QC and equipment checks on unit
  • Evaluates daily patient acuity
  • Assists with clinical education of staff members in the absence of Clinical Educator/Preceptor
  • Assists with investigation and resolution of QCC reports
  • Assists with conflict resolution and guest relations concerns
  • Rounds on patients and family members at regular intervals
  • Interfaces with Care Coordinator and discharge planning
  • Interfaces with Patient Placement and nursing supervisors
  • Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP)
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education And Formal Training

  • Associate’s degree in nursing required
  • Licensed as Registered Nurse by the NC Board of Nursing or Compact State required

Unit Description

  • Main Emergency Department is a 64-bed adult level III trauma unit. Working on a track schedule.
  • Patient ratio 1:3.
  • Our Care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistant's, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Physicians, Physician’s Assistant, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Occupational and Speech Therapists, Charge Nurses
  • New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome!

Work Experience

  • 3-5 years of direct ED experience
  • Asthma exacerbations
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis
  • Fever
  • Seizures
  • Sickle Cell Crisis
  • Respiratory Complaints (RSV, pneumonia)
  • Sepsis
  • Syncope, near syncope
  • Post op complaints
  • Ear Infections
  • Appendicitis
  • Trauma-related injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Procedural Sedations
  • Abuse and Sexual Assaults
  • Strep throat & Tonsillitis
  • Abdominal pain
  • Various related emergencies pertaining to adults

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Effective organizational, teaching, and leadership skills

Physical Requirements

  • Visual and auditory acuity
  • Ability to articulate clearly and succinctly
  • Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
