Urinary Tract Infections

Overview

"In the United States, the CDC estimates that UTIs are responsible for nearly 13,000 deaths every year"  Be able to discuss complicated UTI and uncomplicated UTIs.

Objectives

Following the completion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

1.Differentiate between the types and locations of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

2.Discriminate between uncomplicated and complicated UTIs.

3.Outline manifestations of a UTI in at-risk populations.

4.Describe testing methods for a UTI.

5.Recall the most common uro-pathogenic species.

6.Assimilate and support the concepts of antimicrobial stewardship into practice.
